FREE BUT NOT CHEAP!!

"And the chief captain answered, With a great
sum obtained I this freedom." Acts 22:28

Independence Day focuses on how precious and valuable freedom is, and what it can cost. The Captain was speaking of Roman citizenship, and Paul went on to tell how he received his citizenship by birth, "But I was free born." Here, two men enjoyed the same freedom; but one paid a great sum of money and the other received it free. Many people in America are able to enjoy the freedom and liberty like Paul, through birth. Yet, because something is free doesn't mean it is cheap. What we enjoy was acquired at a great cost and was valued so highly by our forefathers, that many lives were given so we might receive the freedom we many times take for granted. Do you know that God has made salvation a free gift? Rom. 6:23, "...but the GIFT of God is eternal life..." Does that mean it is cheap? What did eternal life cost God? "...through Jesus Christ our Lord." God sent His son Jesus to die for our sin, that we might be set free from our sin. Rom. 5:18, "...by the righteousness of one (Jesus) the FREE GIFT came upon all men unto the justification of life." The greatest gift in all the world was made free to us at God's expense. By faith, you can receive your FREE GIFT. Rom. 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." You can have the liberty that comes, not through the law, but by grace.
