DROP THE BUCKET

"For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the
WHOLE world, and lose his own soul?" Mk. 8:36

Let me share with you about a time when I went to pick some blackberries. I had been having a great time getting scratched up and eaten by mosquitoes. My bucket was about half full when I spotted some berries back in a little dried up draw. I worked my way down on the crusty bed and was reaching up the side for some nice juicy berries, when all of a sudden, the supposedly dry gulch broke through, and I was sinking fast in quicksand. This may shock you, but I instantly made a decision to drop my hard-earned bucket of berries. I grabbed the solid bank, and fortunately was able to pull myself up out of there. Do you realize that I had every right to those berries? You are thinking, "But they were only berries." I ask you, what could have been in that bucket that would have been worth hanging on to? How about a bucket full of gold or silver? You see, my life was worth far more than what could have been in that bucket. As we look around, have you ever seen people hanging on to buckets while things of MUCH greater value sink? How about marriages, families, jobs, relationships, or even your soul, as the verse above asks! What are some buckets that we hang on to? How about PRIDE, ATTITUDE, GREED, LUST, RIGHTS, or just that bucket of STUPIDITY! Young people, have you ever held on to a bucket of SASS too long? How about your soul? What bucket in hell will seem worth the loss of your soul? It's amazing how tight we can grip those buckets! Let's drop some buckets while there's still time!

Thanks and God bless! Pastor Earl Beal
